This year, the Second Annual Gay Orlando Film Festival (August20-22, 2004) will continue the tradition with films that not only portray positive images, but that appeal to film lovers of all kinds. The 2004 schedule is COMING SOON!
Below is the schedule for the 2003 event.
Friends & Family
Stephen and Danny are a charming Manhattan couple who have it all - a fabulous house, good
friends, lots of money - and most important, they have each other. But a surprise visit from
Stephen's Midwestern parents threatens to blow the boys' big secret. They already know they're
gay. What they don't know is that their son and his boyfriend are Mafia hitmen! Called "a cross
between La Cage aux Folles and The Sopranos" by David Ehrenstein in Variety, this charming
comedy is giddy fun from beginning to end.
USA, 2001, 87 min, Directed by Kristen Courys
Saturday, June 28th - 11:00 am
The Politics of Fur
Winner of the Grand Jury Prizes for Best Actress and Best American Feature at the 2002 Outfest,
Laura Nix's electrifying first feature is based loosely on R. W. Fassbinder's 1973 lesbian grand
guignol, The Bitter Tears of Petra Van Kant. Updated to the contemporary LA music biz, this steamy,
wickedly perverse melodrama features a mangled web of domination, jealousy, control, and subservience
between Una, a superstar music producer and B., her nihilistic punkette protege.
USA, 2002, 76 min, Directed by Laura Nix
Saturday, June 28th - 2:00 pm
The Cockettes
"A funny, triumphant, and moving documentary." Owen Gleiberman, ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY
Named "Best Documentary of the Year" by the LA Film Critics Association and winner of the Best
Director Award at the 2002 US Comedy Arts Festival, The Cockettes portrays the rise and fall of
the legendary San Francisco theatrical troupe (1969-1972). Decked out in gender-bending drag and
tons of glitter, their unique burst of cultural experimentation and artistic outrageousness
continues to this day to influence the worlds of theater, music, fashion, gay politics and
spirituality, and urban club life.
USA, 2002, 100 min, Directed by David Weissman and Bill Weber
Sunday, June 29th 11:00 am
The Trip
"Genuinely has its heart in the right place." Jeffrey M. Anderson, SAN FRANCISCO EXAMINER
"One of the best told love stories I've seen in years." Eric Campos, FILM THREAT
"The gay date movie to beat for 2003! Amazing soundtrack, handsome leads, loads of laughs, dollops
of drama!" writes Lawrence Ferber in HX Magazine about this bold and inventive film set during the
heady days of early gay liberation. With its good-natured humor and sweet nostalgia, The Trip delivers
a powerful love story about a pair of unlikely partners in a tumultuous relationship, beginning in 1973
and spanning two decades.
USA, 2002, 95 min, Directed by Miles Swain
Sunday, June 29th 2:00 pm
