ENZIAN AWARDED DISNEY GRANT FOR CHILDRENS FILM EDUCATION PROGRAM

Orlando, Fla. - (May 17, 2011) – Enzian announced today it is the recipient of a 2011 Disney Helping Kids Shine Grant, receiving a $5,000 award for its summer educational program, the KidFest Young Filmmakers’ Summer Camp.

Those selected as grant recipients have demonstrated alignment with Disney’s goal of improving children’s lives by focusing on one or more of the following areas: connecting with adults, character development, constructive use of free time and compassion.

Funds awarded to Enzian will be used to provide 10 children from underserved communities with full scholarships to the two-week day camp.

“We’re thrilled to receive this recognition and philanthropic support from the Walt Disney World Resort,” said Enzian President Henry Maldonado.  “It’s important to our mission as a non-profit that we provide quality programming and educational activities for our community’s youth, and this contribution will assist greatly in sustaining that goal.”

Enzian’s Young Filmmakers’ Summer Camp provides children in grades five through eight with a hands-on, immersive experience into the art of filmmaking as they study cinematic techniques and dive into the production of an independent film.  This educational program will run July 18 through 29.  For more information about the camp or to donate, visit Enzian.org.

Disney will distribute more than $1.2 million in Disney Helping Kids Shine Grants throughout Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Lake and Polk counties from now until May 23.

Enzian is Central Florida’s only full-time, not-for-profit cinema for first-run independent and international film, classic revivals, documentary features, and select family entertainment. Enzian, a member-supported organization serving the community for over 26 years, is home to the Florida Film Festival which attracts more than 21,000 guests annually, and the Eden Bar.  For additional information, visit Enzian.org or call general information at (407) 629-1088.
